BREAKDOWN
[THREE ENSEMBLE MEMBERS]
20s-50s. Seeking actors who are charismatic, physically agile character actors with strong movement backgrounds and energetic, collaborative spirits to create an imaginative, visceral re-telling of George Orwell’s classic novel. Mask technique and modern dance background are a plus. Must have experience in ensemble-based work and improvisation. Specific tracks will be set when the entire ensemble is assembled. Actors will play at least three characters, perhaps more, and will be onstage the entire time. ACTORS OF ALL GENDERS AND ALL ETHNICITIES STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.
Story line: On the watch of Farmer Jones, the animals at Manor Farm live poorly. Inspired by the words of Major, Snowball and Napoleon lead an animal rebellion to create a fair and equal society. Power struggles ensue, and the animals begin to question the foundational values of the rebellion. Resisters are silenced, and a dictatorship emerges. Based on the allegorical novel of the same title, Ian Wooldridge’s stage adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm explores the dark consequences of totalitarianism.
