BREAKDOWN
Erasing the Distance performances fall under two distinct areas:
CUSTOM PROGRAMS We have a vast repertoire of true stories that explore various mental health issues and feature people of different ages, cultural backgrounds, racial groups, and perspectives. The stories are performed as a series of 8-10 minute monologues. We can bring up to five stories to an event, depending on the time and budget parameters of the client. We have performed at schools, faith groups, conferences, and community organizations throughout Chicagoland and across the country. Every performance is followed by a moderated, interactive talkback.
PUBLIC PRODUCTIONS All public productions are documentary theatre pieces based on true stories collected from people who have had experience with mental health issues. These productions are sit-down in a traditional performing space. Productions range from a three-performance run in a single week to a three-week run. We also hold an annual two-week festival of new work in September called DocFest. The festival includes two staged productions in rotating rep as well as readings, workshops and related events.
SEASON SCHEDULE Although we do not program a set season each year, we loosely define our “season” as July-June. Custom Programs take place throughout the year. With Public Productions, DocFest is currently set as two weeks in early September each year. We usually have also performed a public production in late Fall and/or early Spring. 2018-2019 Current Plans DocFest 2018 is scheduled for September 6-16, 2018. We are planning a three-performance TBD production in early November 2018. We will also perform The Criminal Justice Project (working title) for two weeks in late March 2019.
