NOTE: All roles will be understudied.
Actors comfortable roller-skating on-stage a plus.
Santa Claus (50+, Bb3-D5) – A character. Overwhelmed with the Christmas season and it is starting to show. A little cranky but trying hard to keep his holiday spirit while the world is losing theirs. Mover preferred, but adaptable to the actor cast. For submission: “Happy All the Time” cut and The Story of Buddy the Elf music cut (listed under Walter Hobbs) in Dropbox link.
Buddy (20-30, B3-G5) – A charismatic, lovable elf. Except he’s an adult human, not an elf. Must have energetic earnestness, exceptional comedic timing, and strong singer. Tap and Musical Theatre dancing preferred. For submission: “World’s Greatest Dad” cut in Dropbox link.
Walter Hobbs (40s, B3-E5) – Buddy’s birth father, so focused on keeping his job that he is neglecting his family. Stern and devoid of emotion at times, but ultimately learns the importance of family and the Christmas spirit. Mover preferred, but adaptable to the actor cast. For submission: “In the Way” cut and “The Story of Buddy the Elf” ensemble cut or brief selection in the style of the show from your book.
Emily Hobbs (40s, G3-D5) – Walter’s wife. She has warmth and is a problem solver who is doing everything she can to provide a positive family dynamic. Strong mover preferred. For submission: “There is a Santa Claus” cut.
Michael Hobbs (age 12, G3-D5) – Smarter-than-average 12-year-old son of Walter and Emily. He is quick to befriend Buddy. He and Emily are at the heart of the Christmas spirit in the story. Singing voice is unchanged. Strong mover preferred. For submission: “There is a Santa Claus” cut.
Deb (30+) – Walter’s secretary. Has difficult responsibility of meeting Walter’s demands and keeping the office environment pleasant. Positive attitude, with a pleasant demeanor, yet efficient work ethic. Tap and Musical Theatre dancing preferred. For submission: “In the Way” cut.
Macy’s Manager (30+) – Has great comedic timing. Does all he can to make sure the employees of Macy’s stay in line and deliver the corporate “magic” of Christmas. Tap and Musical Theatre dancing preferred. For submission: “Happy All the Time” cut (listed under Santa) and “The Story of Buddy the Elf” ensemble cut or brief selection in the style of the show from your book.
Jovie (20-35, G3-Db5) – Works as a store elf at Macy’s but seems to be low on Christmas spirit. She’s a bit of a cynic, tough around the edges, and finds herself the target of Buddy’s complete adoration. Strong singer. Dancer/Strong mover preferred. For submission: “Never Fall in Love (With an Elf)” cut.
