BREAKDOWN
Seeking:
VIRGILIA
20s Female. Quiet, emotional and deeply attached to her husband, Coriolanus. Must have strong physical and expressive presence.
MENENIUS
(Role now CAST - actors may be considered for possible replacement) 50s-60s, Male. A patrician with a common touch. Funny and sociable, though capable of real anger. Actor should have comic skills but ability to move audience when he is finally rejected by Coriolanus, whom he considers a son.
SICINIUS
50s-60s Male/Female. Wily, fierce politician and defender of the people. Comic skills a plus, but also a fervent believer and borderline demagogue capable of whipping the crowd into a frenzy.
JUNIUS BRUTUS
30s-60s Female/Male. Sicinius’s partner in politics. Should have many of the same qualities.
TITUS LARTIUS
20s-40s Male. Soldier and friend of Coriolanus. Should be warm, strong and versatile performer.
VALERIA
20s-40s Female. Funny and slightly caustic friend of Virgilia. Performer should be very versatile and witty.
TWO ENSEMBLE
Early 20s, any gender. Two actors will be cast to play Citizens, soldiers, senators and servants. A fun track. Performers should be daring and versatile, aggressive, fearless, and funny.
Actors of any ethnicity are strongly encouraged to audition as a very diverse cast is desired.
Strong speaking voices & good speech required for all roles.
All actors must have experience with Shakespeare and verse-speaking.
