Ovid Walpole Bernstein/Tobias Vivian Pfeiffer Jr
* Ovid- 17, a senior at Manhattan's Trinity School and the only child of Jeffrey Bernstein. Ovid has the wry sophistication of a boy raised in the privileged Manhattan system but also a sensitivity and genuine artistic streak
* Toby- the 17 year old son of the robber baron. A student at St. Paul's School anxious to break out of his stuffy world into a modern and equitable one. (Played by the same actor who plays Ovid Bernstein)
Flinty McGee/Florence Deroot
* Flinty McGee- 35, the holy arbiter of the new A-list. A party publicist who is getting to be the age when the party should be for her.
* Florence Deroot- 35, old man Pfeiffer's mistress. Full of pretension and desperate to hold on to her powerful place beside Mr. Pfeiffer. In later life she invents the window treatment (Played by the same actor who plays Flinty McGee.)
Penny Nercessian/Betina Brevoort
* Penny Nercessian- 40, Sid's second wife. A beautiful Asian woman, Penny is the world's leading party manufacturer. She has perfect taste, and Sid makes it possible for her to exercise it.
* Betina Brevoort- 70, the doyenne of the turn-of-the-century New York society. Betina knows where every family came from and when they got here. She will protect the status quo. (Played by the same actor who plays Penny Nercessian).
Caroline Nercessian/Mary Gallagher
* Caroline Nercessian- 18, a graduate of Manhattan's Dalton School and would-be singer. If Ovid is naive, there is nothing that Caroline hasn't seen or done. She lives in a perpetual show me state.
* Mary Gallagher- 17, a feisty Irish maid. Has aspirations to make a better life for herself. (Played by the same actor who plays Caroline Nercessian.)
