AIRNESS
by Chelsea Marcantel
First Rehearsal: June 26, Opening: July 14, Closing July 29
Facebender:
Older than the rest; the sweetheart of the group; open and exceptionally gregarious; from San Diego; a New Age hippie, but takes air guitar very seriously; he takes most things very seriously; his performances are full of feeling; he’s pushing against a well of sadness and depth of need; can sometimes feel like a man out of time, like Don Quixote.

First Rehearsal: July 17, Opening: August 11, Closing August 18
Galileo
Male, 50s-70s, any ethnicity: A scientist and a man of many appetites, Galileo is equally passionate about the arrangement of the heavens and his next meal.
Mrs. Sarti
Female, 30s-50s, any ethnicity: Galileo's practical housekeeper and mother of his star pupil, Andrea. Mrs. Sarti keeps the bills paid, the windows washed and Galileo's feet on the earth.
Sagredo
Male, 50s-70s, any ethnicity: Galileo's close friend and research partner. An open-minded and intellectually curious man of noble birth, who reminds Galileo of the real world implications of his theories.

AN OCTOROON

First Rehearsal: June 12, Opening: June 30, Closing July 8
We intend to cast this play following Branden Jacobs-Jenkins guidelines for the characters’ ethnicities.
BJJ / George / M'Closky
Male, 20s-30s, African American: A contemporary black playwright struggling to make sense of The Octoroon. Also plays George (the sympathetic white plantation owner) and M'Closky (the villainous white overseer).
Playwright / Wahnotee / Lafouche
Male, 50s-70s, white or white passing: Plays the role of Dion Boicicault, a cantankerous Irish playwright who is quite pleased with himself. Also plays Wahnotee (a Native American friend to Paul) and Lafouche (the auctioneer).
Zoe
Female, 20s-30s, mixed ethnicity: An octoroon raised and educated on the plantation, who falls in love with George and is pursued by M'Closky.
Assistant / Pete / Paul
Male, 20s-30s, Native American or mixed ethnicity. A Native American actor who works as the playwright's assistant. Also plays Pete (an older slave in charge) and Paul (a young slave boy).
