Breakdown
Audition Instructions:
Bring a one minute monologue, and prepare 16 bars of two songs, one upbeat and one ballad. Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. No a cappella auditions. Please also wear or bring comfortable dance attire, as all auditioners will be required to learn a short dance/movement combination. There will also be cold readings from the script/songbook.
SEEKING:
Asparagus / Gus – The theatre cat. Dramatic, lives in memory. He was once an actor.
Bombalurina – A saucy red female. A principal vocalist and dancer.
Bustopher Jones – A fat cat, a “twenty-five pounder.” Elegant and refined.
Demeter – A very skittish female cat, principal vocalist.
Grizabella – The former Glamour Cat who has lost her sparkle and now only wants to be accepted. Strong vocalist.
Jennyanydots – The old Gumbie cat. Calm, self-possessed. She sits all day and rules the mice and cockroaches at night.
Macavity – A villain, clever, lives in shadow.
Mr. Mistoffelees – A young black tom with magical powers, which he doesn’t fully control. Strong dancer.
Mungojerrie – Half of a pair of notorious cat-burglars, fun loving, feisty.
Munkustrap – The show’s de facto narrator. A black and silver tom, second in command to Old Deuteronomy.
Old Deuteronomy – The lovable patriarch of the Jellicle Tribe. Wise, dignified, elder statesman.
Rumpleteazer – Female half of a pair of notorious cat-burglars, with Mungojerrie.
Rum Tum Tugger – The ladies’ tom. Wild temperament, clownish and serious, sensual.
Skimbleshanks – The railway cat, indispensable to the trains operation, organized, officious.
Victoria – A pure white kitten.”Jellicle Ball begins with her solo dance.
