Breakdown
Seeking Male and Female Singers with an affinity for Country Rock and Blues – “SOUTHERN FRIED ROCK.” ANNIE SAVOY: 38 - 42 years old. The sexy, curvy, warm and fiery High Priestess of the Durham Bulls. Annie is beautiful without being a beauty queen, smart without being overbearing, gloriously eccentric and more than a little cautious about embarking upon relationships that could last more than a season. She must have a great, southern fried rock voice, in the world Bonnie Raitt or Reba McIntyre. CRASH DAVIS: mid 30s – early 40s. A Baseball veteran who must decide whether to continue playing the sport he loves or hang up his mitt for love. Crash once hit it big in the major league but has found himself back at square one, with the minors. Ruggedly handsome, charismatic with a dry wit and tons of charm. Great pop/rock baritenor. NUKE: early to late 20s. The Durham Bull’s breakout star. Once manic on the field, Nuke gets coached by Annie Savoy & Crash Davis and finds himself in the bigs. Must be over 6'2". Strong singer with pitch and rhythm. A true physical comedian with the body of an Adonis. MAX PATKIN: late 50s - early 70s. The Crown Prince of Baseball. Max Patkin is an ex ball player, ex ballroom dancer and lifer on the road. He's a classic clown, adviser, ladies man and a great shoulder to lean or cry on depending on one's gender. Character singer but must be able to hold tight harmonies. SKIP: 40s - 50s. The Manager of the Durham Bulls. Pragmatic, practical, wry, tough and frustrated by the field of ineptitude. He may once have been in shape but isn’t necessarily now. Loves the games, loves the plays but is a realist. Strong singer with an excellent sense of harmony. LARRY: Late 30s – 40s. Crash Davis’ contemporary but Larry’s moved off the field. A pitching coach who rarely cracks a book. Larry has a limited but defective view of life and baseball. Strong singer with an excellent falsetto and a strong sense of pitch and rhythm. A bear of a man. JIMMY: 20s. Caucasian. Devout Baptist and Baseball Player. As devoted to one as to the other. Completely heterosexual, completely chaste and completely inexperienced. A pitcher, searching for meaning in the Minor Leagues. Strong pop/rock voice. MILLIE: early 20s. Annie Savoy’s right hand women who finds love in the most unlikely of men. Free spirited and sexually liberated. Millie is Annie Savoy’s best pupil but ultimately chooses a path all her own. Must have a terrific pop/rock voice, and sense of humor. Not necessarily pageant pretty but honestly sexual and appealing. HACK ARNOLD: 20s. A catcher. Cocky but sweet. Never takes no for an answer, especially when it comes to the ladies. Surrounded by handlers and promoters. The next big thing. Must be a brilliant comedian, over 5'10", extremely fit and have a great sense of rhythm. THE ANNOUNCER: 60s to 70s. Southern. An Old timer who's seen it all except perhaps the Ebby Calvin Nuke La Loosh. THE BATBOY: 10 - 12 years old. A boy, in love with the game, with all the players. Knows all their stats cold. Local to Raleigh/Durham. Just a normal kid. Unchanged voice. MALE ENSEMBLE: 20s - 30s. Male singers who move well, who are athletic and know their way around a baseball field. Featured roles from the show (Jose, Eddie, Deke, etc.) will come from the ensemble. Must be funny, must know baseball, must be physically agile, fit and over 5'10". Great pop/rock voices. FEMALE ENSEMBLE: 20s - late 3's. Great singers to play girlfriends, wives, reporters and fans. Must have terrific pop / folk / rock voices with ranges. Must have humor and move extremely well.
