Seeking
Asian, Pacific Islander, South Asian, rock, pop, contemporary, legit, operatic, musical theater performers for BEIJING SPRING, a musical odyssey commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Uprising of 1989. A sung-through musical.
Preparation
Vocal auditions only, prepare 1 song pop/rock or contemporary musical theater. Legit for roles Baba and Yeh Yeh. Please bring sheet music.
Other Dates
Rehearsals begin April 15, 2014. Previews begin May 15, opening Wednesday May 21 for four week run (5 performances a week) through June 15, 2014.

Breakdown
Xian – Asian male, early 20s, soaring rock tenor to C5, son of at least two generations of the freedom movement, strong, indefatigable
Baba – Asian, Xian’s father, 40s, legit baritone-tenor to A5, intellectual, part of a democracy movement decades ago. Still has hope for a new China.
Yeh Yeh – Asian, Xian’s grandfather, 60s, legit tenor to high B5, retired, part of the democracy movement long long ago. This role also plays Deng Xiao Ping, the historic leader of the Chinese Communist party in 1989.
Qiao – Asian female, early 20s, mezzo soprano-belt mix to E5, girlfriend of Xian, reluctant to join the movement, high aspiring proud
Da - Asian male, early 20s, baritone-tenor an intellectual - philosophy student, a member of the ensemble
Niu – Asian male, mid-20s, rock tenor to A5, hot-headed activist, angry, could be loose cannon, the ox, ensemble
Ling – Asian, female, mid-20, alto belt to B5, shy and dutiful, spiritual, teaching assistant, ensemble
Peishi – male, early 20s, soulful baritone-tenor with an R&B style to B Flat5, pessimistic about the success of the movement but eventually turns around, ensemble
