With over two dozen timeless hits like “You’ve Got a Friend” and “Natural Woman,” this international phenomenon combines beloved songs with an unforgettable story that will leave a lasting impression.
Carole King (18+ to play ages 16-29) Vocal range top: Eb5 Vocal range bottom: Eb3. An aspiring singer/songwriter. A unique, appealing, funny and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. Talented, good natured, unassuming and often the peacemaker in difficult situations. A reluctant star with no pretense and a passion for music. A powerful, distinctive voice. Piano skills preferred but not required.
Gerry Goffin (18+ to play late teens-late 20s) Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: D3. Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner and eventual husband. He is smoldering, with a rebel vibe. Although sexy, he is innately sympathetic, wounded and tortured. An ambitious artist always striving for more. Sings well.
Cynthia Weil (18+ to play late teens-late 20s) Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: G3. A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Barry. Carole’s best friend. She is sophisticated, smart & chic with a quick wit. Although self-confident and sarcastic, she is also extremely likeable. Strong comic timing who sings extremely well.
Barry Mann (18+ to play late teens-late 20s) Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: C3. A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia. He is good natured, appealing & neurotic. Ambitious, but likeable. Comedic with a great voice. Comfortable with pop & rock style singing.
Don Kirshner (30s-40s) Vocal range top: C#4 Vocal range bottom: A2. An influential music publisher and producer. He is a fast talking, energetic force of nature. Powerful, direct & sometimes intimidating, but he has a real affinity for his writers and artists. A hit maker.
Genie Klein (40s-50s) Carole’s Jewish mother. Once an aspiring playwright, she has been broken down by life & her husband’s infidelity. Protective of Carole and unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes. Non singing role.
ENSEMBLE: A multitalented ensemble of singer/dancers who will portray members of Carole’s inner circle as well as famous musical groups that Carole, Gerry, Cynthia, and Barry wrote for. Including:
