Duke Frederick: He/Him or She/Her. 40s-70s. A dictatorial ruler in a rigid and oppressive regime.
Adam/Hymen: She/Her. 60s+. As Adam, devoted governess to Orlando, frail, wise. As Hymen, the Goddess of Marriage.
Duke Senior: She/Her. 40s-60s Loving, warm, embracing, starry-eyed idealist, compassionate, energetic, intense.
Charles/Audrey: He/Him. 20s-40s As Charles, a hulking and conniving elite athlete. As Audrey, a hulking innocent country boy.
Phoebe/William: She/Her. 16-28. As Phoebe, hungry for love and romance, pretentious, with a bit of a cruel streak. As William, a very sheltered young man who has a hard time comprehending social interactions.
Silvius: He/Him. 16-28. A simple young man, and a complete fool for love. Worships Phoebe, no matter how much she abuses him.
Corin: He/Him 40s-60s Curious, skilled and settled steward of the land.
Rosalind: She/Her. 18-28 years. Brilliant but doesn't know it yet. Loyal, passionate, educated, privileged, clear-eyed, filled with longing, laughs hard, wants to LIVE!
Celia: She/Her. 14-18 years. A motherless old soul, she loves Rosalind like a big sister. Precocious, privileged, skeptical, brave and intuitive.
Touchstone: She or They. 25-65. A sophisticated, subversive, borderline-nihilist freeloader with a curious wit. Along for the ride!
Orlando: He/Him. 18-28 years. Fit athletic champion, frustrated, loyal and truehearted.
Oliver: He/Him or She/Her 18-28 years. Conniving and controlling young nobleman. Later, a big softie.
Jacques/LeBeau: She, He or They. 40s-60s. As Jacques, an uncompromising poet who thinks and feels deeply, As LeBeau, a gossipy bit player in a big oppressive regime.
