SYNOPSIS: Love will find a way: The Forest of Arden comes to life in the Thomas Theatre when Rosalind and her cousin Celia escape an oppressive uncle and take to the wilderness. Disguised as a man, Rosalind searches for her true love, Orlando—who doesn’t recognize her in her new persona. But anything can happen in the forest, including poems in the trees, star-crossed shepherds, and a band of exiles who become family. Identities are lost and true selves are found in Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, bringing its magic to our most intimate theatre in this song-filled, 1960s-infused production by director Lisa Peterson (Hamlet, 2016).
[ORLANDO] He/Him. Late 20s - 30s. Afro-Latinx or Latinx. Sweet, Funny, Charming, lovable, off-beat, sensitive. A lover, not a fighter. Wishes to be a poet but is too sentimental to be good at it. Vulnerable. Great with Shakespearean verse. NOTE: This track will also play or understudy the role of ‘Bruno/Young Quijano/Yard Sale Guy/Terrified Boy’ in QUIXOTE NUEVO and will need to sing.
[Bruno/Young Quijano/Yard Sale Guy/Terrified Boy]: Bruno: a tough guy, earthy, grounded. Other roles require a terrific sense of play. Young Quijano appears first as a small puppet then as a large puppet. Has an affinity for language and a big soul. NOTE: Puppetry skills are useful – though not necessary.
[OLIVER MARTEXT/LE BEAU/AMIENS] He/Him. 20s - 30s. Latinx. Multi-Instrumentalist. Oliver Martext is a county vicar; LeBeau is a courtier in Duke Frederick’s court. Amiens will be a member of a band and requires a multi-instrumentalist with excellent musical skills. Great with Shakespearean verse.
