30’s, attractive, a word processor working for the government. His fierce intellect, Jewish guilt, anxiety and fear of death conspire to keep him from making a true emotional connection with his lover of four years, Prior Walter. Louis's moral journey, from callous abandonment to genuine repentance and sorrow, is one of the key maturations in the play.
