BREAKDOWN

AKEEL BHATTI:
Pakistani, male, late sixties. Father and patriarch of the Bhatti family. Recently retired from a frustrating and humiliating career in a menial position. He has a history of abuse toward his family that he is working to rectify.

JAVERIA BHATTI - MIRZA:
British Pakistani, female, late thirties. Strong minded, independent, secure in herself and her Muslim identity. A big personality, caring and nurturing.

IMRAN JAMEEL:
Pakistani, male, early seventies. The leader of the local Muslim community. Person of stature and reputation. A polite and understanding individual but very much stuck in his ways.

DAVID ADKINS:
British, white, male, mid to late thirties. One of Azeem’s closest friends. A liberal/progressive with a winning sense of humor. Well intentioned and caring.

HAMZA JAMEEL:
British Pakistani, male, mid-twenties. Runs the local mosque. A handsome man, Hamza is comfortable with being insulated within the Muslim community and also with being British. Charming, compassionate and highly moral, he is also capable of manipulating and menacing others for his own ends.

SAIMA KHAN:
British Pakistani, female, early thirties. Has been married to Azeem for just under a year. A newcomer to the Bhatti home. Saima is attractive and intelligent with a sweet sense of humor. She's finding her way in the Bhatti family, trying to negotiate between the demands of a new marriage, keeping peace in this family and living her own life.


THE FOLLOWING TWO ROLES HAVE BEEN CAST. SEEKING POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS/ UNDERSTUDIES.

AZEEM BHATTI :
Role CAST. British Pakistani, male, early thirties. Born in England. Azeem is well-educated, confident, and self-assured. Emotionally self-contained but capable of great anger.

MALIKA BHATTI:
Role CAST. Pakistani, female, mid-fifties. Mother and glue of the Bhatti family. She is a victim of abuse by her husband and is unwell as a result.
