SYNOPSIS: Inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s The God of Vengeance—a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and by others as an act of traitorous libel—Indecent charts the history of an incendiary drama and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it.

LEMML - 35 to 45, he/him/his - A country tailor who becomes leader of the Yiddish Art Theatre of Lodz troupe Naive in his youth, over time as Asch’s company manager, he experiences the good and the terrible that the world has to offer, but he is never consumed by cynicism. Holds fast to his belief in the transformative power of performance, even in the Nazi-controlled ghetto where his troupe performs.

SYNOPSIS: From the African Copperbelt to the backwoods of Muskoka, acts of faith tells a story about the power of belief, the disillusionment of youth and the eternal struggle between good and evil. The story follows Faith, a young woman who gets mistaken for a prophet. When a revered religious leader attempts to take advantage of her plight, she begins using her ‘gift’ to right wrongs and punish the wicked. Far from home, Faith will come up against the ultimate test of her convictions in a final confrontation between sin and sainthood, morality and godliness.

The Chinese Lady

SYNOPSIS: Inspired by the true story of the first Chinese woman to step foot in America, Lloyd Suh’s critically-acclaimed play, THE CHINESE LADY, is a tale of dark poetic whimsy and a unique portrait of the United States as seen through the eyes of a young Chinese girl. In 1834, 16-year-old Afong Moy sailed into New York Harbor and was immediately put on display for a paying public who were mesmerized by her exotic ways and horrified by her tiny bound feet. As audiences follow Moy’s travels through America as a living exhibit for decades, THE CHINESE LADY shares her impressions of a young country struggling with how to define itself.

She is proud, but optimistically naive of what it means to be the first Chinese woman in America. *Asian-American performers with physical or mobile disabilities are encouraged to audition for this role.*

ATUNG - older than Afong Moy, he/him/his. - He is Afong’s translator and caretaker. He is respectful of his responsibilities/duties but he yearns for things he cannot have.

SYNOPSIS: Step into the enchanted world of Broadway's classic, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation that has been produced in 37 countries worldwide. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

LEFOU - 25-40, any ethnicity, he/him. A dim-witted lackey to Gaston.

COGSWORTH - 40-55, any ethnicity, he/him. An English major-domo of the castle who is becoming a mantle clock.

LUMIERE - 35-45, any ethnicity, he/him. A French mâitre d’ who is becoming a candelabra.

MRS. POTTS - 45-55, any ethnicity, she/her. A cook who is becoming a teapot.

CHIP - 7-10, he/him. any ethnicity, Mrs. Pott’s son, who is becoming a teacup. Role will be double cast.

BABETTE - 25-35, any ethnicity, she/her. A maid who is becoming a feather duster.

MADAME DE LA GRANDE BOUCHE - 40-55, any ethnicity, she/her. An opera singer who is becoming a wardrobe.

MONSIEUR D’ARQUE - 35-55, any ethnicity, he/him. Proprietor of the lunatic asylum.

CHORUS/ENSEMBLE - 20-65, any ethnicity, any gender. The Narrator, Villagers, Castle Staff, Old Beggar Woman, Wolves and Young Prince. (These roles will be auditioned for at a later time)

SYNOPSIS: “Internationally ignored song stylist” Hedwig Schmidt is an East German rock ‘n’ roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation. This outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious story is dazzlingly performed by Hedwig in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine backed by Yitzhak and the hard-rock band “The Angry Inch.” With a pulsing score and electrifying performances, Hedwig is a funny, powerful, and inspiring story for anyone who has felt life only gave them an inch when they deserved a mile.

HEDWIG/TOMMY GNOSIS - 18+, any ethnicity, any/any. The lead singer and musical genius of the punk rock band “The Angry Inch”, on a revenge tour across the nation. Equal parts rock goddess, stand-up comedian, and vulnerable human being. Able to transform in and out of many roles throughout the show while remaining grounded in a strong base character.

YITZHAK - 18+, any ethnicity, any/any. Hedwig’s husband and roadie/back-up singer. Is bound by the constraints of traditional masculinity but longs to explore a more feminine side. Has a killer voice but must always be hidden behind Hedwig.

The Figs

SYNOPSIS: How much would you sacrifice for love? The Figs is a fairytale-like play about what-ifs, desires, and obsession. Follow a mad king obsessed with figs, a star-crossed princess infatuated with an inn-keeper, a young hero whose only friend is a swan, and a wiley storyteller. The Figs pushes for audiences to remember the wonder held inside a good story.
