Seeking
Equity female and male actors for the Blackfriars Playhouse 2016-17 seasons of rotating repertory. See breakdown.

Preparation
Please prepare two contrasting Shakespeare monologues or one Shakespeare monologue and a 16-bar song.

Please bring a picture and résumé.

Breakdown

The American Shakespeare Center (ASC) casts troupes of ensemble actors. All actors will be cast in each of the plays in a season of rotating repertory and each actor will play a variety of roles, large and small. All actors must have strong classical training and experience. Musical ability is a plus.

2016 BLACKFRIARS SUMMER/FALL SEASON (7-month contract):
BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, Jim Warren director
TWELFTH NIGHT, Beth Burns director
KING LEAR, Jenny Bennett director
HENRY VI, PART 2, Jim Warren director

First Rehearsal: April 25, 2016
First Performance: June 14, 2016
Final Performance: November 27, 2016

For the 2016 Summer/Fall Season (7-month contract), the ASC is looking for the following general types (exact doubling will be determined when the acting troupe is cast):

Younger leading men: Could play Sebastian, Edgar, Edmund, Andrew Jackson, Suffolk, Henry.

Younger leading women: Could play Viola, Cordelia, Rachel Jackson, Henry.

Leading men: Could play Andrew Jackson, Edgar, Edmund, Orsino, York.

Leading women: Could play Olivia, Regan, Goneril, Margaret, Eleanor.

Character actors: Could play Lear, Gloucester, Fool, Malvolio, Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, Maria, Jack Cade.


2017 ACTORS’ RENAISSANCE SEASON (3-month contract):
THE MERCHANT OF VENICE
CORIOLANUS
THE SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL
New play TBA, Jim Warren director
THE FAIR MAID OF THE EXCHANGE

First Rehearsal: December 27, 2016
First Performance: January 6, 2017
Final Performance: April 2, 2017

For the 2017 Actors’ Renaissance Season (3-month contract), the ASC is looking for the following general types (exact doubling will be determined when the acting troupe is cast):

Younger leading men: Could play Bassanio, Lorenzo, Charles Surface, Joseph Surface, Anthony Golding, Ferdinand Golding, Frank Golding.

Younger leading women: Could play Portia, Nerissa, Jessica, Maria, Phyllis, Ursula.
Leading men: Could play Antonio, Shylock, Coriolanus, Aufidius.

Leading women: Could play Portia, Nerissa, Volumnia, Lady Teazle, Lady Sneerwell.

Character actors: Could play Shylock, Gratiano, Gobbo, Sir Peter Teazle, Snake, Mrs. Candour, Sir Benjamin Backbite, Flower, Mistress Flower, Cripple, Fiddle.


The American Shakespeare Center seeks actors of all shapes, sizes, colors, and abilities. We frequently cast women as male characters and sometimes men as female characters.
