A PERFECT PEACE
YONI (Man, mid-20s, Jewish) He is a handsome war hero with a charismatic personality, who wants to leave the kibbutz he has grown up on. He is tired of the narrowness of kibbutz life. He is tortured by feelings of guilt after he convinces his wife RIMONA to get an abortion. He is HAVA's and YOLEK’s son. This role involves staged intimacy, without nudity. A knowledge of chess is very helpful.
RIMONA (Woman, mid-20s, Jewish) She is married to YONI. She is wistful, naïve, and anxious to please. She desperately wants to be a mother and grieves for the babies she has lost. A beautiful woman who loves classical music; her favorite composer is Bach. This role involves staged intimacy, without nudity.
ZORO/HIKER/SHIMON (Man, early to mid-20s, Jewish) He is an Eastern European Holocaust survivor who immigrated to Israel. He is awkward and eager to fit in and belong. He is quirky, philosophical, and bright, with a pedantic sense of humor. There is an underlying magnetism to him. He plays acoustic guitar and sings. A knowledge of chess is preferred as well as the ability to play the acoustic guitar and sing. This role involves staged intimacy, without nudity. Doubles as: HIKER: An Israeli military policeman, SHIMON: An Israeli vendor at a desert market, actively serving as an army reservist.
MICHAL (Woman, 19, Jewish) She is a lively, attractive, small-town young woman who gains a sense of independence after joining the Israeli army. She is eager to have a romantic relationship with an older, worldly man.
YOLEK/DRIVER/TLALLIM (Man, 67 - 75, Jewish) He is YONI’s father, and HAVA’s husband. He is a disciplined, self-sacrificing, and politically connected man who is the head of the kibbutz. He is a follower of David Ben Gurion. He is demanding of the younger generation, and beginning to feel his age. Doubles as: DRIVER: A patriotic Israeli who glories his past military experience and befriends YONI, TLALLIM: An eccentric, boisterous, and kindly loner. He was born in Eastern Europe and immigrated to Israel. A lover of life and women, he takes YONI under his wing.
HAVA/LEAH (Woman, 62 - 70, Jewish) A controlling, querulous, and opinionated woman born in Eastern Europe. She glorifies YONI and is disdainful of RIMONA, YOLEK, and ZORO. Doubles as: LEAH: An Israeli vendor at a desert market, actively serving as an army reservist.
