SEEKING
Equity female singers with strong Blues, Rock, and Legit vocal skills for Janis Joplin and the Joplinaires. See breakdown.
PREPARATION
For the role of Janis: Prepare a song in the style of Janis Joplin.
For the Joplinaires: Prepare a song in the Blues/Soul repertoire per the following roles
Bring sheet music in key; accompanist provided. Bring picture and resume.

BREAKDOWN
JANIS JOPLIN: 20s to 30s in appearance. The rock and roll legend. A Force of nature, a genuine spirit, “a white chick singin' the blues”, an original. Great, authentic rock & roll/blues voice with incredible range and chords of steel. Must be a natural actress, highly charismatic with a superb sense of humor and irony and that “something else” - genuine star quality. Actress should be able to channel the spirit of this rock legend, without impersonation. Two actresses may be hired to alternate this role. Prepare a song in the style of Janis Joplin.
JOPLINAIRES: 20's to early 40's in appearance. Portrays Janis' musical icons over the years, African-American greats including Etta James, Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Odetta, and Aretha Franklin. Not looking for impersonators. One of these actresses will sing “Summertime” in the original Gershwin key.
