This is a site-specific production that is being created for the National Parks of Boston, as part of their Suffrage in Black & White series. The play will be performed in King's Chapel Parish House in June and July. An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

JOSEPHINE ST. PIERRE RUFFIN: CAST. Black woman, 53, Founder of the Woman's Era Club and Editor of the Women's Era journal. Lifelong Bostonian. Resolute and intimidating.

FLORIDA RUFFIN RIDLEY: Black Woman, 34. Daughter of Josephine. Editor of the Women's Era journal and former schoolteacher. Smart, sprightly and slightly skittish.

VICTORIA EARLE MATTHEWS: CAST. Black Woman, 34. Founder of the Woman's Loyal Union of New York and Brooklyn. Editor of the Womens' Journal. Born enslaved, brilliant. Pragmatic and discreet.

MARGARET MURRAY WASHINGTON: Black Woman, 30. First president of the Federation of Afro-American women. Wife of Booker T. Washington. Soft in speech and demeanor.

MRS. SAMPSON OF JP: Black Woman, 55. Inwardly a Boston Brahmin. Don't call her anything else.

ANNA J. COOPER: Black Woman, 37. A member of the Colored Women's League out of Washington, DC. One of the first Black women to earn a Master's degree. Pioneering work on Black feminism. Elegant and focused.

FANNIE BARRIER WILLIAMS: Black Woman, 40. Vice president of the Illinois Women's Alliance. The first Black woman nominated to the prestigious Chicago Woman's Club. Confident and plain-speaking.

ISABEL: Black Woman, 20. Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin’s house woman. Sweet, unassuming, and persistent. Is a proficient pianist.
