BREAKDOWN
[NORA]
40 to 50 years old, female. Highly Intelligent, passionate, great sense of irony, articulate, delicate, confident with duality of guilt/shame, physically agile, great listener, very much in the moment. ACTORS OF ALL ETHNICITIES STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.
[TORVALD]
40 to 60 years old, male. Highly intelligent, holds his cards close to the vest but full of burning passion, great sense of irony without being glib, physically agile. Baggage is carefully doled out until conveyor belt goes into overdrive. ACTORS OF ALL ETHNICITIES STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.
[ANN MARIE]
60 to 75 years old, female. Maternal, worn to the bone, spontaneously warm and wary, hopeful and resentful, can get tangential(comedic) but choosing loyalties can erupt into sudden rage. ACTORS OF ALL ETHNICITIES STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.
[EMMY]
18 to 28 years old, female. Self-possessed with hidden ratio of rage/control battling inside her, resolute, resourceful, had to be a woman too early so the child occasionally spontaneously spills out. Genuinely curious, not shut down. ACTORS OF ALL ETHNICITIES STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.
STORYLINE:
When we last saw Nora Helmer, she was slamming the door on life as she knew it, and embarking on a brave, bold and shocking new world as a woman on her own. Fifteen years later, she's returned to that same door, with a high-stakes game of unfinished business on her mind. Featuring the same characters from Ibsen's groundbreaking masterpiece, The New York Times called this Tony Award-nominated play “A smart, funny and utterly engrossing play” and Time Out New York said it is “modern in its language...and suspenseful in its plotting.”
