Based on a true story. 1964. Turmoil over civil rights is spilling onto the streets, a fearful ideology is growing from the conservative right, and the threat of nuclear war is palpable. With a presidential election looming, a team of Madison Avenue ad-men working for Lyndon Johnson create the most devastating and provocative political commercial ever made.
Character Breakdown (actors may play additional smaller characters TBD)
*LOUISE BROWN
Early 30s, a copywriter with the advertising firm of Doyle Dane Bernbach. Smart, independent, ambitious
*WILLIAM BERNBACH
Early 50s, creative director of DDB. Seasoned, intelligent, tougher than his affect suggests – a class act with integrity and a conscience, but a very keen business mind.
TONY SCHWARTZ
Late 30s, a sound archivist, independent media specialist, and agoraphobe. Brilliant, quirky, articulate, an artist in his field.
CLIFFORD LEWIS
Early 30s. African-American. Deputy Special Counsel to the President. A White House insider, very much a political animal and a chief architect of LBJ’s campaign strategy.
SID MYERS
Early 40s. An art director with DDB. Full of ebullient can-do energy and ideas, never at a loss for words.
AARON ERHLICH
Early 40s. A television producer with DDB. Urban neurotic, paranoid, he’s not happy unless he’s got something to worry about, but he’s a guy who can make things happen and he’s very good at what he does.
