LES MISERABLES' Emma Buchanan and Evatt Salinger Top 2015 Bobby G Awards; All the Winners!

Denver Center for the Performing Arts Broadway announces the 2015 recipients for The Bobby G Awards, a regional awards program for The National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Emma Buchanan and Evatt Salinger, the 2015 Bobby G Award recipients of the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, will represent Colorado at The National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York. Both are from Durango High School's production of LES MISERABLES. Emma Buchanan played Eponine and Evatt Salinger played Jean Valjean.
The seventh annual National High School Musical Theatre Awards take place Wednesday, June 24, through Tuesday, June 30 in New York City. The week's rigorous schedule includes group rehearsals and individual vocal and acting coaching by Broadway industry professionals, visits from special guests and discussions with working actors and a night out in Times Square for dinner and a Broadway show. On Monday, June 29, Emma Buchanan and Evatt Salinger will give it their all at The Jimmy Awards showcase at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway, where a panel of judges will choose two students for the coveted awards of Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress.
The Bobby G Awards ceremony, held on May 28 at 7pm at The Buell Theatre, included performances from the shows nominated for outstanding overall production and honored outstanding achievements by students and educators made in the areas of performance, design, direction, choreography, technical production and overall production excellence. Thirty public and private high schools in Colorado participated this season.
This year's Outstanding Special Achievement Award recipients include: Outstanding Special Achievement in Sound Design by Abigail Kieffer from Cherokee Trail High School's production of The Addams Family; Outstanding Special Achievement in Stage Management by Shailyn Clay from Mountain View High School's production of Aida; Outstanding Special Achievement in Production Leadership by Gabriella Bailey from Westminster High School's production of Rent. The recipients for Rising Star, Outstanding Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress received the prestigious Lewis E. Myers, Jr. Scholarship Program scholarship to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Education department.
It was announced at the ceremony that The Randy Weeks Memorial Fund for The Bobby G Awards was established at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts this year to support the advancement of musical theatre for Colorado high school students. Beginning in 2017 the fund will provide financial support to selected schools through The Bobby G Awards. Due to the generosity of Robert and Judi Newman, the DCPA will begin accepting applications for the production support fund during the 2015-16 Bobby G season.
