Uptown Players continues its 2009 season with The History Boys, held April 3 – May 3, 2009, at the KD Studio Theatre. A hugely successful, sold-out hit at The National Theatre of Great Britain and on Broadway, this brilliant comedy follows the senior year of eight history students in the north of England as they try to crack admission to Oxford and Cambridge.

Unruly, bright, talented and amusing, these boys are in natural pursuit of sex, sport and a place at a good university. In all of their efforts, they are helped, hindered, and enlightened by a maverick English teacher (Bradley Campbell) who seeks to broaden their horizons, and by a young history teacher (David Plunkett) who questions the methods of their schooling. Very funny and deeply moving, The History Boys explores the anarchy of adolescence, the nature of history, and the methods and aim of education.

The History Boys cast includes Blake Blair, Corey Cleary-Stoner, Bradley Campbell, Rick Espaillat, Alan Jackson, David Plunkett, Alex Ross, Aaron Sanchez, Chris LaBove, Brett Thiele, Wendy Welch and Andrew Worley. The production is directed by Bruce Coleman.

The production runs April 3 – May 3, 2009 with performances at 8 pm on Thursday through Saturday and Sunday April 19, 25 and May 3 at 2 pm. Performances take place at the KD Studio Theatre, 2600 N. Stemmons Freeway #180 (I-35 at Medical District Drive), Dallas Texas 75207. Tickets are $25 - $30. Tickets can be purchased online at www.uptownplayers.org or by phone at (214) 219-2718.

Now entering its eighth season, Uptown Players has gathered a dedicated following with an annual audience base of nearly 12,000 patrons, including more than 900 season subscribers. The response from the community and critics has been remarkable, including more than 25 Leon Rabin Awards from the Dallas Theatre League, several hundred “The Column” Awards and 14 Theatre Critics Forum Awards in its first seven seasons. Uptown Players has also been named the best theatre company by the Dallas Voice Readers in 2006-2008 and by the Dallas Observer in 2004 and 2005. Uptown Players is a 501 © 3 non-profit organization, presenting plays and musicals that challenge audiences artistically, build cultural bridges and strive to create greater positive public awareness and acceptance through the performing arts. There is no other theater group with this unique mission in the Dallas area.
