Brick Road Theatre will present A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE, the 2003 Outer Critics Circle Best Musical Award recipient, on May 5th-13th, 2017. The Tony Award-winning trio behind RAGTIME writes the show: Terrance McNally (Book), Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics). Lon Barrera directs.
A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE was developed from the 1994 film of the same name and tells the story of Alfie Byrne, a bus driver in 1964 Dublin, whose heart holds secrets that he can't share with anyone but his imagined confidante, Oscar Wilde. When he attempts to put on an amateur production of Wilde's SALOME in the local church hall, he confronts the forces of bigotry and shame over a love "that dare not speak its name." But the redemptive power of theatre changes his life and brings his friends back to his side. The musical originally premiered at Lincoln Center's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater in 2002, with a cast that featured Roger Rees as Alfie Byrne and included Faith Prince and Steven Pasquale.
This musical, the seventh production produced by Brick Road's founder Noelle Chesney, features music direction by Rebecca Lowrey, choreography by Kyle Christopher West, scenic design by Kevin Brown, costumes by Hope Cox, lighting design by Robbie Castillo and sound design by Mark Howard. Andrew "Bedpost" Friedrich serves as production stage manager. The show's orchestra is comprised of Beth Lipton, Will Hughes, Bill Zauner, Jessie Ramirez, Andrew Friedrich and musical director Rebecca Lowrey. Several members of the cast will also serve as featured instrumentalists throughout the production.
Dallas icon B.J. Cleveland leads the company as Alfie Bryne. The cast also includes Jennifer Kuenzer (Lily Byrne), Stan Graner (Carney), Michael McCray (Robbie), Shannon Conboy (Adele), Rebecca Paige (Mrs. Patrick), Tyler Jeffrey Adams (Breton Beret) Craig Boleman (Father Kenny), Billy Betsill (Carson), Ivy Opdyke (Mrs. Grace), Mary-Margaret Pyeatt (Miss Crowe), Stephanie Felton (Mrs. Curain), Doug Fowler (Baldy), Steven Miller (Rasher Flynn), Brad Smith (Ernie Lally), Jared West (Sully O'Hara), Melissa Rosenberg (Kitty Farrelly), Benjamin Brown (Peter) and Erin McGrew Herndon (Customer).
