Crabgrass Puppet Theatre's THE DAY IT SNOWED TORTILLAS Hits The Ivoryton Playhouse 8/21

Creative problem-solving is the key ingredient that helps a poor couple outwit a gang of bullies. A poor woodcutter and his wife have the chance of a lifetime – to become rich! All they have to do is keep a secret. Trouble is, the woodcutter is the biggest blabbermouth south of the border. “We have to keep this a secret!” she tells him. “Absolutely!” says her husband. “I won't tell anyone. . . except my brother . . . and my best friend . . . and my mother . . . and . . .” “Enough!” says his wife. She cooks up an ingenious plan to divert any unwanted attention. All she has to do is make it snow . . . in July . . . in Mexico! The recipe for this hilarious folktale includes fantastic puppets, hysterically funny action, marvelous music, and one ridiculous chicken.

Bonny Hall has been awarded a Commendation for Design in the Puppet Theatre by the Arlyn Award Foundation for The Day It Snowed Tortillas. The Arlyn Award was created to honor the memory and legacy of Arlyn Coad, an award-winning puppet and scenic designer. Commendations were awarded to the five finalists in the competition. The Arlyn Award was created to:

a) recognize outstanding design in the puppet theatre.

b) challenge puppeteers to refine their skills as designers.

c) enhance the image of puppetry in the world theatre community.

Arlyn Coad was and is, along with a handful of other puppet designers, a major inspiration for Bonny, and it means a great deal to her to have received this commendation!
