On November 19th, we played our last performance of Our Town at the University of New Haven. Every show had a unique element to it. Thanks to our dramaturg, Dr. Margaret Savilonis, and our helpful reliable team of ushers, the program contained an insert asking us what we would put into a time capsule, referring to the Act 1 speech from the Narrator. At the end of the show, to the audiences amazement, they walked out to the lobby which had their answers (which were collected at intermission) projected onto an image of the night sky. Like any show, we were sad to see it end. We learned about each other and ourselves through this process and we grew closer as a department.

Thanksgiving break came and went. We are now in the midst of the second show of the semester. The Theatre for Community Impact Class will grace the stage with performances December 8th thru the 10th. At the Bucknall Theatre, the class will be displaying their collaborative effort in original vignettes and a scene from The Other Shore. The current overall theme to the performances and Working Title is Radical Empathy. New decisions and choices are being finalized every day. Most fields of this project are primarily student driven, with student designers, directors, writers, and more! Stay tuned for more information on the performances.

Since the beginning of the semester, we have discussed issues in local communities and what it means to be a community. We have researched other theatre companies and performance artists making an impact on the community at large. This served us with inspiration to drive our collective effort to the fullest potential.
