The Victoria Theatre Association has been certified with the “Standards of Excellence” award by the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations (OANO).   The Victoria Theatre Association received its certification at a ceremony, May 12, 2009 in Columbus, OH, at the Fourth Annual Ohio Nonprofit Excellence Award Luncheon at the Ohio Statehouse, with over 250 nonprofit executives in attendance.

The Victoria Theatre Association, whose mission is to strengthen the economic and artistic vitality of the Dayton community and arts partners through presenting quality and diverse arts experiences,  joins more than 25 nonprofit organizations across the nation who have achieved the Standards of Excellence certification.  The Victoria Theatre Association is the third nonprofit in Ohio to be certified and joining The Dayton Foundation and Artemis.  A highly critical process, each certified group voluntarily agrees to undergo an anonymous peer review process to confirm adherence to a comprehensive code of conduct that promotes accountability through self-regulation.

“Everyone at the Victoria is thrilled to have earned the Standards of Excellence certification.  It is a true reflection on our hard-working, dedicated staff’s commitment to providing excellent service to our patrons,” said Michael Roediger, Vice President of Development at the Victoria, who accepted the award on behalf of the Victoria Theatre Association at the ceremony May, 12, 2009.

The Standards of Excellence certification reflects a conscientious and lengthy review of a nonprofit organization’s program operations, governance, human resources, financial management and fundraising practices.  Nonprofits from around the state are eligible to apply for the Standards program.  “It takes great dedication to undergo the certification process. We are proud to certify Victoria Theatre Association.  Their work shows the commitment they have to those who benefit from their programs, their contributors and to the public,” said Jennifer Williams, OANO’s Executive Director.

The Standards program was created in 1995 with grants from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to advance the efficacy of nonprofit organizations. Shortly after the formation of the train program in Maryland, Ohio was selected to participate.

OANO is a statewide membership association of nearly 550 organizations that provides leadership, education and advocacy to enhance the ability of Ohio’s nonprofit organizations to serve their communities.
