Williams Street Repertory, McHenry County's only professional theater company, announces casting for Steve Martin's critically acclaimed comedy! On September 16, WSR brings the wit of Steve Martin to the stage at downtown Crystal Lake's Raue Center For The Arts. The long-running Off-Broadway absurdist comedy PICASSO AT THE LAPLIN AGILE runs from September 16 - October 23. This hilarious and thought-provoking play places two 20-somethings named Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian café in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism.
Bystanders, including Picasso's agent, the bartender and his mistress, Picasso's date, an elderly philosopher, and Charles Dabernow Schmendiman, an idiot inventor, introduce additional flourishes of humor to the show. The final surprise patron to join the merriment at the Lapin Agile is a charismatic dark-haired singer time warped in from a later era. In his first comedy for the stage, Martin plays fast and loose with fact, fame and fortune as the two geniuses muse on the century's achievements and other fanciful topics with infectious dizziness.
WSR's production of PICASSO AT THE LAPLIN AGILE is directed by Joe Lehmen and features:
Joel Bennett as Freddy
