Student Blog: My Favorite Musical Moments Image

To preface this, most of these moments will likely come from Hadestown, and Hamilton because those are my favorite musicals.

10. "One Day More" - Les Misérables

One of my favorite things in musicals is when everyone sings different lines at the same time and then comes together near the end. Not only does it create a unique challenge when trying to sing this song while in the car, as you can't just stick to singing one part, but it is also just an interesting aspect that only works in musical theater. I also usually have a special appreciation for songs right before intermission. I can't explain why, but they sometimes just hit differently.

9. "What You Mean to Me" - Finding Neverland

I just really like love songs. Also, the first time I saw this musical I was fascinated by the shadows on the wall from the small lamp during this scene. It looked purposefully done and this song quickly became one of my favorites from the musical.

8. "All I Ask of You" and "All I Ask of You (Reprise)" - Phantom of the Opera

This moment is once again one before intermission, and partly a love song. I love the transition of a happy moment between Raoul and Christine to Phantom, who witnessed the whole scene, swearing to get his revenge on them, beginning with causing the chandelier in the opera house to fall.

7. The ending of "Non-Stop" - Hamilton

I feel like my reasoning for favorite moments sometimes just comes from a "feeling," and don't have any actual reasoning behind why I ranked it where I did.

6. "Diner Lobster" Sketch - SNL

So, this isn't from an actual musical, and instead is a skit from SNL when John Mulaney hosted. This skit uses songs from Les Misérables, and I just found it hilarious. The sketch combines two of my favorite things, John Mulaney, and musicals. It is a skit that I often will go back and re-watch multiple times, and every time it still makes me laugh.

5. "All I've Ever Known" - Hadestown

At this point, I feel like I am repeating myself, but once again, it is a love song, and it is from my (current) favorite musical, so obviously, it had to end up on this list.

4. "Road to Hell (Reprise)" - Hadestown

Yes, this song makes me cry. From the first time I listened to it, to see it on Broadway, and all the time in between it makes me cry. But the theme of hope in this song makes it one of my favorite musical moments.

3. "Livin' it Up on Top" - Hadestown

Similar to "Road to Hell (Reprise)," this song contains one of my favorite quotes of the entire musical: "to the world we dream about, and the one we live in now." It is something that stuck with me from the first time I listened to the soundtrack in 2020.

2. "Wait for It" - Hamilton

I get chills whenever I listen to this song. It is my favorite moment in the entirety of Hamilton.

1. "Wait for Me" and "Wait for Me (Reprise)" - Hadestown

These are my two favorite songs from Hadestown. I love the staging of both scenes. When I saw it live, I was amazed by it, and had chills from these scenes. With Hadestown as my current favorite musical, it makes up 4 out of my 5 top favorite musical moments. Honestly, the entirety of the musical could make up this list, but these were the moments that really stuck out to me.
