BWW Blog: Blogging in School Image

Hi again, everyone! I hope you have had an eventful semester and year so far. With it being the time for midterms, there are a lot of school projects underway and with that, a lot to talk about. Depending on what school you may attend, what your interests are, and what level you're at in school, it's all a process with so much room for opportunity to share what the latest trend is and how it affects the work you do.

One of the classes I am currently taking is Social Media & PR Strategies, and our midterm project is to get in groups and create a blog for a company of our choice. My group chose the beauty brand Dove because we like the company's mission of promoting natural beauty, and the brand is simple and clean with their products and designs. One of the main things we had to consider were the sections of the blog and figuring out what we could write that would be unique enough to capture the attention of potential viewers and followers. Along with this, we had to think of a title, create a layout and design, and the hardest part was getting technical.

BWW Blog: Blogging in School ImageMy teacher in this class has her own reality show about her business that is based here in Chicago, so it is always interesting to hear her experience of running the social media for her company and any advice she passes on to us for utilizing social media to its best. Currently, we are learning about creating RSS feeds and what is worth writing that will bring good updates to subscribers. My class is using a book called Groundswell by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff (it can be bought easily on Amazon) and it is a great source for information when it comes to social media, technology, and blogging.

For me, two of the things I love about being in Chicago involve my school and the theatre scene downtown. I love going to an art school that revolves around creativity and using the real world for school projects. I also love being able to leave class for the day and walk past theatres such as the Chicago Theatre, The Goodman, and Broadway in Chicago theatres such as the Oriental Theatre and Cadillac Palace because it brings me a sense of joy to be surrounded by houses for touring Broadway productions that attract thousands of theatre fans each season. College can sometimes be tough for some people, especially when it comes to making career decisions that can impact one's life forever, so I feel really grateful that I not only go to a school that is centered towards my interests, but it's in a city full of theatre and music. Besides, walking past a street sign with Patti LuPone on it is great for anyone!

BWW Blog: Blogging in School ImageThere are so many opportunities for students to take advantage of, no matter the degree or interest, and college is a time for major impacts. Students are able to get in to companies to interview professionals and meet people that people not in school would not normally have the chance to do. When it comes to blogs for BroadwayWorld, I love reading the posts from other students, seeing what they are doing at their schools and what perspectives they have that can benefit the arts industry. Writers have the power to express, influence, and inspire people with experiences and ideas. The world is in your hands.
