On Thursday, October 30, at 8:00pm multi-media performance artist Joseph Keckler and cult songstress Carol Lipnik with her band Spookarama will perform their act at Spiegelworld (Pier 17, South Street Seaport at Beekman Street).
"Imagine attending a séance in a deserted Coney Island amusement park at night. Like some strange siren mediums, Lipnik and Keckler with their hauntingly beautiful voices channel the spectrum of human emotions. At one moment madcap and reckless, the next sorrowful and lamenting, with every step in between accounted for by a poetic image-rich and genre defying songwriting that echoes sources as varied as Weimer-era German cabaret, swamp blues, psychedelic folk, and turn of the century parlor songs," describe press notes.
Lipnik is expertly accompanied by critically acclaimed eclectic jazz pianist Dr
Ed Scott (here a one man band wonder) on crazed carnival keyboards, guitar, accordion and percussion, together with the woozy woven strains of Jacob Lawson's masterful gypsy violin and electronics.
To come out the other side of this performance is to feel haunted, enriched, and somewhat dazed by the mad rush of colors that make up such a unique musical world.
