Welcome to BWW TV World's new daily ON THIS DAY series celebrating series premieres and special events that took place on this day in television history!
On December 6, 1962, American actress Janine Turner was born. Turner is best known for her roles as Maggie O'Connell in the 1990 - 1995 television series NORTHERN EXPOSURE, and as Dr. Dana Stowe on the Lifetime original series Strong Medicine from 2000 - 2002.
Northern Exposure ran on CBS from 1990 to 1995, with a total of 110 episodes. It dealt with New York doctor Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), who is sent to practice in the (fictional) town of Cicely, Alaska. Early episodes dealt with Fleischman's culture shock in the small town. As he got acclimated more attention was paid to the town's quirky residents.
It received a total of 57 award nominations during its five-year run and won 27, including the 1992 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, two additional Primetime Emmy Awards, four Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and two Golden Globes. Below, check out a clip from Season 2 in which Maggie and Joel's libidoes run amok while waiting for the ice to break!
