Despite topping THOR: THE DARK WORLD at Friday's box office, Universal's THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY was struck down by Marvel's god, taking second by weekend's end with $30.5 million.

BEST MAN HOLIDAY, originally projected to bring in $20 million, more than tripled the first film's opening of $9 million in 1999.

In the movie, after nearly 15 years apart, Morris Chestnut (Identity Thief), Taye Diggs (Baggage Claim), Regina Hall (Scary Movie franchise), Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow), Sanaa Lathan (Contagion), Nia Long (Soul Food), Harold Perrineau (Zero Dark Thirty), Monica Calhoun (Love & Basketball) and Melissa De Sousa (Miss Congeniality) reprise their career-launching roles in The Best Man Holiday, the long-awaited next chapter to the film that ushered in a new era of comedy. When the college friends finally reunite over the Christmas holidays, they will discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be ignited.

THOR held on to the top spot, however, scoring an additional $38.4 million, bumping its two-week total to $146.9 million.

Also opening this weekend in select theaters are Alexander Payne's NEBRASKA, starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte for Paramount, and CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN, with Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood.
