Horror sequel INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 scared up a major box office win this weekend with $41 million. Jason Blum and Oren Peli's Blumhouse production earned just over $20 million on its opening day, Friday the 13th.

The famed horror team of director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell reunite with the original cast of Broadway vet Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Barbara Hershey and Ty Simpkins in INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, a terrifying sequel to the acclaimed horror film, which follows the haunted Lambert family as they seek to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.

In second was Relativity's starstudded mafia film THE FAMILY, starring Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer, which managed to earn $14.5 million for the weekend. Drected by Luc Besson and written by Tonino Benacquista (novel), Luc Besson (screenplay), the dark action comedy follows a mafia boss and his family who are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite the best efforts of Agent Stansfield (Tommy Lee Jones) to keep them in line, Fred Manzoni (Robert DeNiro), his wife Maggie (Michelle Pfeiffer) and their children Belle (Dianna Agron) and Warren (John D'Leo) can't help but revert to old habits and blow their cover by handling their problems the "family" way, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down.

RIDDICK rounded out the top three, adding an additional $7 million to its two-week total, bumping it up to just north of $31.2 million. Lee Daniels' THE BUTLER earned $5.5 million for the weekend, sending it over the $100 million mark, with WE'RE THE MILLERS adding in fifth, taking $5.4 million.
