Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We may be a week away until the festive American holiday, but this week's episode of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, entitled "Fade Into You," was all about Thanksgiving, or should I say Friendsgiving since none of the characters on the show that still have alive and breathing human family members could celebrate with them because of that pesky border situation. Or their family just didn't feel like taking the three hour two hour fifteen minute drive to Whitmore.

Back in the real May 1994, Kai was murdering his family a ton. Specifically, he was after his sister Jo and his two little, blonde siblings.

In the present, Caroline and Elena were throwing a Friendsgiving feast while Damon, Stefan, and Alaric took a road trip to Portland to track down the Gemini Coven and the Ascendant. Damon revealed to Elena that Bonnie was still alive and they were on a mission to find the answers to save her. Unfortunately, Stefan hadn't been invited to Friendsgiving and Damon, Alaric, and Ms. Cuddles called him out on being a jerk towards Caroline.

In 1994 prison, Kai had also dragged Bonnie up to Portland. He wanted a proper Thanksgiving and that meant retuning to the same house where he had slaughtered a handful of his siblings. He was sentimental when it came to the holidays.

Ms. Cuddles was annoying Stefan too much about the Caroline situation and in a fit of anger, Stefan threw the magic bear into the empty field they had been standing in. Except, the field was anything but empty as the bear revealed a witchy force field keeping Kai's house hidden.

Although Alaric wasn't able to attend Friendsgiving, Elena had still invited Jo to the feast, mostly because she could cook a turkey. She had also invited new boo Liam and debated telling him she was a vampire. Liv and Luke both popped up and Luke suddenly got nostalgic and made everyone watch baby videos of him and Liv, much to Caroline's dismay. Jo entered with the turkey, hearing herself echo through Luke's phone. She looked at the twins in utter shock. Lucas and Olivia were her twin siblings Kai had tried to murder in 1994. Everyone was shocked, especially Liam. Caroline told him he had heard the word "oven" not "coven" and compelled him to get the heck out.

Not only were Liv and Luke Jo's siblings, but Kai was Jo's twin as well. He knew that if his younger twin siblings were alive then he would never have the power over their coven he wanted. Their coven operated on a more screwed up way of living and coveted twins as a sign of ultimate power. Once twins came of age (22) they would be forced to duel for power. The stronger one would absorb the weaker ones power, leaving the weaker of the two to die, and become the leader of the coven. This fact bummed Liv out a lot.

Back in Portland, the guys had come across Mr. Parker. He wasn't too pleased to see Damon, especially when Damon let slip that he had been hanging out with Kai in 1994 prison. Mr. Parker shielded Stefan and Alaric from the house and took Damon hostage. He knew there was a chance they were going to let Kai free and he would do anything to stop it, including murdering his own daughter from across the US. Coven over family was his motto. No word on if he was single, though, because Esther Mikaelson would have probably swooned at his loyalty to magic and child hating.

It turned out that Jo had been in possession of the Ascendant all along, but she didn't get much further in the continued bombshell of secrets as she began to hemorrhage and convulse from her fathers magic. Liam tried to swoop in and save the day human style, but Jo told him to "shut up" and Elena decided to screw her whole secret keeping plan and saved Jo with her blood. Liam looked on in horror.

Jo was able to instruct Alaric and Stefan how to get back into her house using a knife she had hidden in the stump of a tree. At the same time in 1994, Kai was searching for the very same knife. Bonnie's magic transferring had tipped him off that maybe, just maybe, his sister had performed the same magic 18 years prior. He grabbed the knife, absorbing the power from it, and stabbed Bonnie for her blood. He didn't need a Bennett witch to perform the spell, just her blood.

Stefan and Alaric saved Damon just as Mr. Parker disappeared (probably to New Orleans to get Esther's number). Alaric apparently hadn't had any vervain in his morning bourbon as Damon compelled the now human to do whatever it took to acquire the Ascendant from Jo.

Back at Whitmore, Elena had come clean to Liam, but it didn't matter. He was too human for her and she preferred the blue-eyed, leather jacket wearing, vampire type. She compelled him to forget she was a vampire, forget their relationship, and go back home. Elsewhere, Tyler comforted Liv on her horrible family situation. Did Luke actually care he may have to murder his sister?

Stefan stopped by the college to talk to Caroline and apologize for being the monumental jerk he had been. She accepted his apology and gave him left overs that no one had actually eaten. Elena and Damon stopped by the local bar for a drink and Damon revealed the truth about his months in 1994 prison with Bonnie. Damon swore to bring Bonnie home and the two held hands in solidarity.

In 1994, Bonnie awoke to find herself stuck in Portland prison. Kai had taken off with the car and Ascendant.

Things we need to discuss:

- Luke & Live are 22? Liv, you cougar.

- Who gets the Father of the Year award? Mr. Parker or Mikael?

- Esther Parker has a nice ring to it. Do you think Klaus wants another father?

- THE VAMPIRE DIARIES/THE ORIGINALS support group for children whose parents want to murder them is now at full capacity.

- Kai's 1994 prison seems to still having everything supernatural/magical just with no people in it. Sounds more like a great vacation spot for some R&R to me.

How will you be spending your Thanksgiving? Does your family have a lot of drama/secrets? Are you also part of a coven that likes to murder children? Comment below or tweet me @enr702 or find me live-tweeting @erinrlivetweets.
