When in doubt, karaoke! That's the theme of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, a show about death, destruction, sex, and the supernatural. No matter what hijinks you end up in, karaoke will be sure to start a conversation about your existential life crises, if not annoy every person in your immediate area. This week's episode, entitled "I Could Never Love Like That," included questionable doctor ethics, flashbacks of the turn of the century variety, and Whitmore officially becoming the worst college in America.

Caroline and Stefan were playing a little game of kill-and-seek, Stefan finding Caroline's kill tactics a little boring as she murdered two bartenders of Whitmore's lone bar. Stefan grew bored of murder and decided karaoke was next on the menu.

Enzo decided it was time to introduce Sarah to her biological family when he freaked at the sight of Lily AKA the woman who turned him in 1903. He flashed back to the day he had turned, but then decided to compel Sarah to forget all the information he had expounded upon her. Sarah, though, was one step ahead as Matt had supplied her with vervain. Meanwhile, Lily was cooking up brunch for Damon and Elena and hassling Damon about her desiccated friends in the prison world.

Back at the bar, Caroline was singing the hits of the 80s during a study break at the bar, annoying all the co-eds when Matt and Tyler popped up during their police training - because that was still happening. Damon determined it was time to reunite Stefan and Lily, hoping it would turn his humanity switch back on.

At the hospital, Elena was helping to bandage up and feed her blood to Caroline and Stefan's victims when she filled Jo in on recent events and to celebrate her pregnancy, which she deduced by witnessing Jo drink decaffeinated coffee and not by using her vampire skills to hear a second heartbeat. Elena had been feeling down about humanity, pretending she didn't want babies and a human life.

Sarah had subdued Enzo and taken him hostage, wanting to know the truth. He continued to remember the year he was turn, Lily acting as a savior and helping him board onto a ship, TB-stricken and all. She took a suspicious pity on him, helping him to turn and offering him a spot with her and her friends before he died of his illness.

Caroline grew bored of karaoke and decided to play a little game of 20 Questions with Tyler and Matt, promising to kill whichever one answered questions about her life wrong. Unfortunately, neither of them could provide an answer to what Liz's last memory was before she died and her and Stefan decided they would just kill both of them.

Damon and Lily searched for Stefan when she came clean about not having any motherly love for her children anymore. At the bar, Tyler had decided to fight back against Caroline and Stefan. His cockiness backfired on him as Caroline grabbed Matt as a shield just in time for Tyler to ram a wooden chair leg through Matt's abdomen.

Lily decided she didn't want to be at Whitmore anymore, but Damon earned her trust by handing over the Ascendant to her prison world. Enzo continued to reflect with Sarah; Lily had abandoned Enzo after his turn, leaving him alone to navigate the world as a baby vampire, hence his desire to torture and do the same to Sarah.

While Tyler tried to save Matt from dying, Caroline and Stefan wondered out loud if this meant Tyler would once again be peeing on fire hydrants soon. They continued taunting Tyler when Damon walked in with Lily, stunning Stefan. Caroline high-tailed it out, leaving the brothers alone with Lily where she launched into a speech verbally given to her by Damon about loving Stefan and feeling guilty about her abandonment. Although her speech was laden with fake promises and declarations, Stefan fell for it all, turning his humanity back on.

Tyler rushed Matt to the hospital where he refused Elena's blood, claiming to want a real doctor that saved people the human way. Enzo decided to let Sarah go, not wanting to subject her to anymore of his torture. Damon introduced Lily to Uber and sent her on her way, finally getting a moment with Elena, but still not coming clean about the cure.

Jo called Damon and Elena in, demanding the Ascendant. Damon confessed he had already given it up to Lily when Jo informed Damon of the truth behind Lily's imprisonment: Lily had befriended a group of outcast Gemini witches, similar to Kai, who could only syphon witchcraft from others. Lily had turned six of these witches, resulting in a hybrid vampire-witch that could syphon their own power. A fun time!

Things we need to discuss:

- For six seasons we have been led to believe that vampires cannot be both a vampire and a witch. This retcon of mythology, while still giving it a new twist, is interesting. I'm wary to see where it leads; Why did Lily befriend these specific witches? Will they be as handsome as Kai?

- Was I dreaming when Lily told Enzo she knew the song she was humming to him was a childhood favorite of his? There must be more to Enzo's story besides Lily being his sire. Why did she take pity on Enzo, because she died the same way? There must be more to the story. And if there is more to the story then it's odd that Lily didn't recognize him.

- I was waiting for Stefan to turn to Lily and say "LOL JK" about turning his humanity back on since her speech was corny for someone like no humanity Stefan, but I guess nothing can compete with a mother's "love."
