Ten seasons is a heck of a long run for a show. Most shows fizzle out around Season Five, grasping desperately to come up with new and original material. Season Nine of SUPERNATURAL felt like a jumbled mess at the end; I was truly unsure of where they were heading and if they could continue to grab my attention. Luckily, Monday's premiere was a step above previous years, introducing us to Deamon Dean, or "Deanmon," and the shenanigans that are sure to follow on this new journey.
"Black" picks up six months after Dean's resurrection, and Sam has been searching high and low for his brother, even going as far as to torture various demon's for answers to his whereabouts. Sadly, the only clue Sam had to go off of was a note Dean had left behind that read, "Going to get pie with my BFF Crowley, be back never." Clearly, Sam was going to do anything and everything to get his brother back.
Unfortunately, Castiel wasn't much help to Sam in the search. With his stolen grace running low and growing sicker by the day, apparently Cas had been the cause of Sam's now broken shoulder.
Sam wouldn't have to look much further, as Deanmon and Crowley had been holed up in the same North Dakota bar for days? Weeks? Months? And had already been through every song in the karaoke machine. They hadn't caused any real trouble, except for hassling locals to play foosball with them and eating all the bar nuts. Dean had even taken to the pretty bartender and defended her honor in a brawl.
To keep him on his toes, Crowley had been sending Abaddon supporters after Dean in order to feed the notorious Mark of Cain. This breach of trust between the two besties was Sam's call to action as he saw first-hand on a surveillance video Deanmon's black eyes for the first time as he fought off and killed one of these supporters.
Although Castiel couldn't help Sam, angel Hannah was in dire need of assistance in finding and arresting two angels that had refused refuge back to Heaven and had killed two of their own kind in the altercation. The rouge angels just wanted to be left alone to live in the woods, fish, and live like human hippies; but they didn't belong on Earth possessing the bodies of innocent humans. Castiel empathized with these angels who only wanted to feel human, but Hannah was not keen on hearing about peace, love, and spiritual finding. A tussle between the four left one rouge angel dead, one on the loose, and Hannah acting no better than the others.
A quick call to Crowley alerted Sam to his brother's location as Crowley taunted Sam on the phone for a little too long about graphic novels being written about him and Dean and how "Dean Winchester completes me." We get it, Crowley, you love Dean more than anyone else, tell us something we don't already know.
Sam rushed to North Dakota to confront his brother, but was thwarted by a mysterious traveler along the way. He quickly kidnapped Sam and tied him up in parts unknown. It seemed like Sam was leverage to lure Dean to this payback-seeking stranger. Not a fellow hunter and seemingly unknowing about monsters and demons, Sam was completely confused to why this man was after Dean and how they even knew each other. All he did know, however, was that after a phone call to Deanmon, the elder Winchester wasn't coming to his rescue.
Things we need to discuss:
Was the introduction of Deanmon enough to keep you tuning in? Will Deanmon choose to party in Hell with Crowley or make his way back to his brother? Discuss in the comments below or tweet me @enr702 or find me live-tweeting @erinrlivetweets!
