With the thundering applause of thousands of greater Sacramento children still reverberating in the Community Center Theater, the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera (SacPhil & Opera) announced today "Art Invasion 2015" -- 7 weeks of musical pop-up performances by SacPhil & Opera instrumental and choral musicians bringing music to every nook and cranny of Sacramento. The ten-concert, 2015-16 Resurrection Subscription Season -- which begins this June -- is anticipated to be announced the week of April 26.

Dozens of "Art Invasion 2015" pop-up performances will range in scope and scale from a Philharmonic concert celebrating a grand opening to the Opera Chorus being invited to perform with Andrea Bocelli to Philharmonic chamber ensembles appearing in churches, diners, and libraries to new and experimental music ensembles showing up in area museums, clubs, and public spaces. Bringing music to underserved areas of Sacramento is a priority of Art Invasion 2015.

Fueled by, and thanks to, an arts services partnership contract with the City of Sacramento, all "Art Invasion 2015" performances (with the exception of the Andrea Bocelli concert) will be free to the public.

In each of the seven weeks, a roster of "pop-up" performances will be revealed at facebook.com/SacramentoPhilharmonicOpera. The inaugural "Invasion" will be on May 5, 2015 to coincide with the "BIG Day of Giving" an effort led by GiveLocalNow in collaboration with the Sacramento Region, Placer, and Yolo community foundations.

As the finishing touches are put on "Art Invasion 2015," the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera also announces that Michael Morgan has been named Music Director Emeritus.

"Michael has served the Sacramento musical community with grace and distinction," praised Alice Sauro, the SacPhil & Opera's Executive Director. "When we needed strong, steady, and dedicated leadership, Michael was at the ready. In the tradition of other distinguished Music Directors' Emeritus - Georg Solti, Neemi Jarvi, Raymond Leppard, Seiji Ozawa to name a few - we will build the future on Michael's legacy while maintaining a titled relationship with him which puts us in an incredibly positive position."

As music director emeritus, Morgan will be engaged to conduct in Sacramento in future seasons, continuing a career of appearing with most of America's major orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, National Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Houston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony, Edmonton Symphony and Omaha Symphony.
