Barry Banks And Joseph Calleja To Replace Rolando Villazón In The Remaining Performances Of L'ELISIR D'AMORE

Rolando Villazón is still struggling with acute laryngitis. In order to give himself the rest he needs to make a full recovery, his doctor has advised him to withdraw from the remaining performances of L’Elisir d’Amore. He has canceled performances on April 8, 11, 15, and 18.

Barry Banks will sing the role of Nemorino on April 8, and as originally scheduled, Joseph Calleja will sing the role on April 22. The tenor for performances on April 11, 15, and 18 will be announced soon.

Barry Banks recently sang the role of Elvino in the Met’s new production of La Sonnambula on April 3. He is noted for his interpretations of the bel canto repertory and has also performed the roles of Ramiro in La Cenerentola, Lindoro in L’Italiana in Algeri, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, and Tonio in La Fille du Régiment at the Met, as well as Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and Flute in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the role of his company debut in 1996.

L’Elisir d’Amore is conducted by Maurizio Benini and features Angela Gheorghiu as Adina, Franco Vassallo as Belcore, and Simone Alaimo as Dulcamara.
