Singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles has written her first musical Waitress, based on the 2007 film of the same name. The show opened this month at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA. The talented artist recently spoke with WBZ-TV's Liam Martin and Paula Ebben and shared her excitement over the new project.
"I have so much for respect for the legacy of [musical theater], you don't want to try your hand at something this publicly and then have it be awful," shared the singer. Watch the clip below!
Directed by Tony winner Diane Paulus and featuring a book by Jessie Nelson, Waitress began performances at the Loeb Drama Center on Saturday, August 1, 2015.
Based upon the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, the new musical follows the story of Jenna, an inventive Waitress trapped in a small-town diner and a loveless marriage. Pregnant and lonely, Jenna finds relief in making creatively-titled pies - and in a budding romance with an unlikely newcomer.
