When indie-punk heavyweights like Anchorless Records (Chumped, Brendan Kelly) and A-F Records (Anti-Flag's own label) want to co-release a record, you know it's going to be something special. Now, you'll be able to hear it - Early Riser's debut record, Currents, has a release date of June 16th. The record has already attracted fans like Jeff Rosenstock and Chris Gethard, both of whom agreed to be in the hilarious video for Early Riser's first single, "The Nevers." As a songwriter, Kiri Oliver has a knack for taking the ups and downs of everyday life and granting them a mythic, otherworldly quality. As the singer and guitarist of Brooklyn-based punk/folk/pop quartet Early Riser, along with cellist and vocalist Heidi Vanderlee, she's currently fronting one of the most distinct-sounding bands in a scene already brimming with talent. Longtime music bookers for The Chris Gethard Show, Oliver and Vanderlee aren't afraid to do things a little differently, crafting pop songs that are heavy on harmony and strings, while harnessing a manic energy somewhere between the Weakerthans and the Mountain Goats (two of Oliver's favorite bands). Vanderlee has also played live with/on records by Mikey Erg, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Mal Blum and Plow United, and has toured with Lemuria.

For Currents, Early Riser headed down to Noisy Little Critter Recordings in suburban Philadelphia to track 11 songs with producer Joel Tannenbaum (Plow United, The Rentiers) and engineer Mike Bardzik (engineering credits include Spraynard, Mischief Brew, The Sundials). Accompanied by their TCGS-mate Zane Van Dusen (Mindtroll, Toys and Tiny Instruments) on bass and Davie Olson (Nevada Nevada, Poison Control Center) on drums, Oliver and Vanderlee created 30 minutes of music that veers effortlessly from light to dark and back to light, touching on themes of letting go, moving on, surrendering to the flow. It's epic.
