The Whiskies of the World today released the exciting line up of brands participating at their inaugural Atlanta event, which will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013, at the InterContinental Buckhead.
The flagship event, Whiskies of the World San Francisco, has grown over the last 14 years to become one of the largest consumer tasting festivals in America, and a much-anticipated staple, not only locally, but nationwide. Every year, the Expo enjoys the attendance of 1,500 participants from as many as 20 states. The Whiskies of the World in Atlanta will follow the success of its San Francisco and Austin events to gather the world's most fascinating distilled spirits along with their makers and ambassadors to give its guests an opportunity to sample, learn and experience the art of whisky. A sure-to-become Atlanta favorite, the Expo will have special features, such as whisky pairing with craft foods, a cigar cut and smoke, and whisky maker meet and greet. Famous men behind the whiskies will be in attendance to pour and personally cheer with guests: Hollis Bulleit, first lady of Bourbon; Rob Robillard, a creator of the unique American maple-infused whiskey; David Perkins, whisky innovator and founder of High West Distillery, Sean McQueen, farm to bottle founder of Mississippi River Distilling, Kevin Mulcahy, a Diageo Master of Whisky; Ed Kohl, a "trainer" for the entire beverage industry as we know it today who participated in the notorious Pepsi and Stoli barter, and other notable whisky personas.
From the biggest brand names to recently introduced to the US releases, including unique whiskies from Scotland and Ireland, exotic Asian whiskies and the diverse products of the American craft, there will be a spirit to suit everyone's taste. In addition to incredible spirits from every corner of the world, the Expo will also feature seminars conducted by world renowned Master Distillers and Brand Ambassadors. Among those giving seminars are:
Matt Springate (The Glenlivet) "Understanding Flavor through Aromas"
Matt Springate will lead guests through a sampling journey that covers the core range of The Glenlivet, "The Single Malt that Started it All". Participants will be educated on the brand's unique history while going through an aroma exercise to help simplify the main flavor components of single malt.
David Perkins (High West Distillery) "Whiskies: A Scientific Art"
David Perkins began his career as a biochemist and started his own drug company. He was lucky to meet and team up with Brendan Coyle, a former brewer with a masters in brewing and distilling sciences from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. They spent every morning thinking about making great whiskey. David will introduce guests to what whiskey is and what it can be: explore the differences between different styles of whiskey (light, straight, single malt) and the importance of choosing a distillation style that complements the grains, yeast and fermentation. Finally, guests will understand how blending can give flavor profiles which aren't possible in single batches, and taste examples of what this ultimately means in the finished products.
Hunter Chavanne (Willett Distillery) "How it was made then and now: Willett Distillery through the centuries"
With a rich history dating back to the 1600's, Willett Distillery knows a thing or two about whisky production. Marketing director, Hunter Chavanne, will lead guests through the heritage of the distillery from the 1600's until the present day, discussing topics such as: bottling, warehouse and product line operations. Mr. Chavanne's presentation will be complimented by a talk from Willett's Distiller, Terry Ballard. Mr. Ballard will expand on Willett's grains, water, distilling and aging process, and how they interact with one another.
"Cigars and Whisk(e)y - A Perfect Pairing" (by Davidoff Cigars)
With a cigar and whisky in hand, guests will be guided through the flavors and aromas to focus on when matching a whisky with a cigar. The experience will involve a scotch, a bourbon, and a Cigar.
Guests will also enjoy a sumptuous buffet dinner specially created to pair with whisky, and outdoor cigar smoking for the total delectable experience. The event has been receiving great interest from exhibitors, consumers, media and trade, and aims to start a new tradition among the whisky enthusiasts of Atlanta and beyond.
