For the 61 st year in a row, all Waffle House restaurants will be open Christmas and New Year's Day, continuing a tradition that started in Avondale Estates, Ga. in 1955.

Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner opened the doors to the first Waffle House on Labor Day 1955 and since it was a seven-day a week, 24-hour restaurant, they never thought about closing on Christmas and New Year's Day.

"If you're going to be a service to the community, you should be there 24 hours a day, every day of the year," says Waffle House Rogers Sr. While Joe, 97, and Tom, 98, won't be working this Christmas, you can be sure the tradition they started in 1955 continues today.

"We pride ourselves on being there for our customers, especially during this busy and sometimes stressful holiday season," says Waffle House President and CEO Walt Ehmer. "And many customers have made going to Waffle House a holiday tradition of enjoying the food and fellowship Under the Yellow Sign."

People have come to rely on Waffle House to be there for them. For Christmas Eve, for Christmas, for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, for Hanukah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, and even for Festivus. And come what may, whether it's rain, wind, snow, hurricanes, or even abominable snowmen Waffle House is there for you to provide a fun, family atmosphere with good food served fast and friendly.
