Bellucci Premium comments on an article which shares the proper ways to store olive oil in order to prevent spoiling and maintain its health properties.

According to a Michigan State University article published on October 8th, titled "Store olive oil to avoid spoilage and maintain nutritional quality," olive oil has become a popular choice to cook with. Many individuals are using it to replace other oils such as corn or canola oil. It is also one of the healthiest oils due to its monounsaturated fat content and antioxidants.

The proper knowledge of how to store olive oil is important, according to the article. Storing olive oil at the improper temperature can cause it to become rancid. "The exposure of olive oil to light and heat can cause oxidation, which makes it go rancid," says Natalie Sexenian, marketing manager for Tuscan olive oil producer Bellucci Premium.

The article recommends keeping olive oil in a cool and dark place. Anywhere between 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit is an appropriate temperature to store olive oil at. A kitchen, which could be warmer than 70 degrees Fahrenheit, will cause olive oil to spoil.

Keeping olive oil in a dark place is also important. Some olive oil bottles have tinted glass that helps keep out light, but not all of them do. The article recommends avoiding plastic bottles as well. Always opt for glass bottles, since olive oil can soak in chemicals that leech out of the plastic.

"Always be sure to store olive oil in a cool, dark place," says Sexenian. "At Bellucci Premium, we bottle our olive oil in dark glass containers in order to prevent light from damaging the oil inside."

Bellucci offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers. The third type of oil Bellucci produces is the finest 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, grown in many different regions of Italy.
