The FruitGuys delivers the endangered Sonoma County apple nationwide from Aug. 14-23

A portion of all proceeds to benefit Gravenstein apple farmers

SAN FRANCISCO, July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ The FruitGuys and Slow Food Russian River announce the availability of the 12 th annual limited-edition Gravenstein Apple Box. From today through Aug. 20, people can place orders with The FruitGuys to receive boxes of Northern California's beloved heirloom apple. Sixteen percent of all Gravenstein Apple Box proceeds will be donated back to the Sonoma County Gravenstein apple farmers who continue to produce this special variety.

Gravensteins are an endangered American food on Slow Food's Ark of Taste. They are primarily grown in Northern California's Sonoma County where only a handful of farmers still farm this heirloom apple; others have succumbed to growing economic pressure to plant higher-yield wine grapes or sell their land. Gravensteins are a delicious sweet-tart apple available only about two weeks every summer due to a short harvest season.

"The Gravenstein Box makes it possible for apple lovers nationwide to have access to this incredible heirloom fruit," says The FruitGuys founder and CEO, Chris Mittelstaedt. "As a company that prides itself on supporting American farmers and delivering the best fruits to our customers, we're honored to play a role in helping farmers preserve the Gravenstein apple."

Known as the baking apple, the Gravenstein is famously used in pies and to make juice, cider, and sauce. It's also delicious eaten out-of-hand. Each Gravenstein Apple Box contains information about the Gravenstein's history, farmers, and recipes to make sweet and savory treats.

Gravenstein Apple Boxes can be ordered at fruitguys.com/gravenstein and are available in both organic and conventional options with 16-, 24-, and 48-serving sizes. The Gravenstein Apple Box is available for delivery Tuesday-Thursday from Aug. 14-23. The last day to place an order is Monday, Aug. 20. The FruitGuys offers free delivery in California and in the Seattle metro area. For shipping rates outside of California, contact customer service at 1-877-FRUIT-ME (877-378-4863) or info@fruitguys.com.
