Being "salty" usually has a negative connotation but not on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 National Pretzel Day. For the ninth year,PhillyPretzelFactory will be giving away one pretzelto every guest who comes through its doors in celebration of National Pretzel Day. The first 100 fans in line also receive a card to redeem for a pretzel every day during the month of May.

This year, with the Philadelphia presidential primary landing on the same celebrated day, Philly Pretzel Factory decided to celebrate by creating specialized pretzels in the shape of top presidential candidates: Donald Trump, Hilary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz.

"We look forward to National Pretzel Day every year. It allows us to celebrate our hero item and to show our appreciation to our loyal fans who have been enjoying our fresh baked pretzels for 18 years," said Dan DiZio, CEO and co-founder of Philly Pretzel Factory. "We are even more excited to unveil our #PretzelPrimary Facebook campaign for social media lovers to share and like images of the presidential candidate pretzels."

National Pretzel Day began in 1983 when Philadelphia Rep. Robert S. Walker declared his favorite food was deserving of its own holiday. In April 2003, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell declared April 26 th National Pretzel Day to honor and recognize the importance of the treat to the state's rich history of German immigrants. Philly Pretzel Factory launched its pretzel giveaway initiative on National Pretzel Day in 2008, seeing thousands of fans enter its stores for a savory treat each year, and giving away more than one million pretzels in total over the past eight years.

As the world's largest Philly-style bakery, Philly Pretzel Factory bakes fresh, delicious soft pretzels "served hot outta the oven" to its customers. Each pretzel, made from a mix of only the finest and freshest ingredients, is hand twisted to ensure quality and authenticity.

With 154 locations, primarily in the Northeast, Philly Pretzel Factory is further expanding its presence across Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia this year. The company is also looking for franchise partners to begin development in Illinois, Ohio and Indiana.
