HOMER, Mich., Nov. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ PS Food Mart locations across south-central Michigan and Toledo, Ohio encouraged employees, customers and neighbors to support families in need through the recent Pop-Tarts fundraising campaign. During the month of October, 31 locations donated 70,000 Pop-Tarts to local food pantries chosen by the store manager of each participating location.

"We are thrilled that our customers were so eager to help us fight hunger in our community," said Ed Heath, vice president operations for PS Food Mart. "With the holiday season fast approaching, we wanted to do our part to start the season of giving and the generosity of PS Food Mart employees and customers helped make this campaign a success."

This year's event was such a success due to the PS Food Mart team's planning efforts. The executive team worked together to take on various responsibilities throughout the campaign resulting in one of the best executed and most effective fundraisers PS Food Mart has ever done.

PS Food Mart employees encouraged customers to purchase Pop-Tarts for $1 and donate them to a local charity. Six Jackson, Mich. locations led the charge with their donation of 13,622 Pop-Tarts. A large portion of this went to the Jackson Community Food Pantry and the Jackson YMCA. In addition to the Jackson-area locations, other participating locations donated to food pantries across Michigan and Ohio, including Homer Caring and Sharing Food Pantry in Homer, Mich., Christ Apostolic Church Food Pantry in Albion, Mich., Doris Klaussen Center in Battle Creek, Mich., East Toledo Family Center and Toledo Northwest OH Food Bank, both in Toledo, Ohio.

PS Food Mart Charities is supported in its efforts by CITGO, which participates in a wide variety of local charity and community programs.
