The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation (NYC Parks) and New York Restoration Project (NYRP) announce the December 29, 2014closure of New Leaf Restaurant & Bar in Fort Tryon Park. The final day of operation will be December 28. The restaurant will close in advance of a major repair to the 79-year-old Parks-owned building NYRP has occupied since 2001. NYC Parks is currently arranging for a new operator for the restaurant.
The reconstruction of the building's roof is slated begin in January and be completed by the summer of 2015. NYRP will collaborate with NYC Parks to ensure that the next tenant benefits from NYRP's experience. As the space transitions to new management, NYC Parks will make efforts to limit any service interruptions for parties with previous arrangements with New Leaf.
Since 2000, NYRP has worked with Parks to transform New Leaf into a celebrated space for the Washington Heights-Inwood community. Located in Fort Tryon Park, a breathtaking 67-acre site in northern Manhattan, the New Leaf building was designed by the Olmsted brothers as a park cafeteria and administration building and constructed in 1935. It is known for its cobblestone exterior, slate roof, granite archways and oak trusses that support its 18-foot-high ceiling.
