The 24th Annual Spain's Great Match was a highlight of the fall wine tasting season for media and trade in New York City. Held at the IAC HQ Building, it showcased the diverse wines from Spain as well as the country's food and design.
At the "Walk Around Tasting" guests were able to sample wines from over 30 of Spain's Denominations of Origin (DO) with more than 300 Spanish wines on display for tasting. We had the opportunity to enjoy those by Familia Torres that included De Casta Rose 2016 and Verdeo Verdejo 2015 as well as wines by Bodegas Beronia that included Beronia Crianza 2013 and Beronia Gran Reserva 2008.
Special events were available with renowned wine experts that included Marnie Old, Doug Frost and Ana Fabiano. We attended a presentation on "Cava's Prestige Categories: Reserva, Gran Reserva & Paraje Calificado." Marnie Old spoke to the guests about the Cava region and presented ten sparkling wines for tasting that included Vilarnaou-Brut Reserva, NV; Torello-"225," Gran Reserva, Brut Nature 2013; Freixenet-"Casa Sala," Gran Reserva, Brut Nature, 2006.
Wine and cheese, of course! Cheese from Spain is produced by artisans using traditional methods that date back centuries. These unique and tasty varieties include Manchego, Mahon, Tatilla, Zamorano, and Idiazabal. They are wonderful on a crudité or in recipes.
Wines of Spain are available at a wide range of price points allowing for affordability but also giving wine aficionados a great selection. For more information, visit: www.winesfromspainusa.com.
