Americans will consume over 65 million pounds of peanut butter during National Peanut Butter Month in November. And while that seems like a lot, peanut butter is so incredibly versatile that its uses go far beyond the staple sandwich. It's great in smoothies, shakes, baked goods, and can be served as a dip for fruits and veggies.
Here's some fun facts about peanut butter:
-It takes almost 550 peanuts to make a 12 ounce jar of peanut butter.
-Americans spend almost 800 million dollars a year on peanut butter
-94% of United States households consume peanut butter.
-Two presidents were peanut farmers, Thomas Jefferson and Jimmy Carter.
And now for the good news. Peanuts are a no cholesterol food and contain over 30 nutrients and phytonutrients including potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron and vitamin B-6.
Try a favorite recipe. In a blender, combine 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt, 1/2 cup of milk, 1 ripe banana and 1/4 cup of peanut butter. To make it a little frosty, add 1/2 cup of ice. Blend until smooth.
Celbrate National Peanut Butter Month and enjoy!
